PHUKET: A woman motorcycle rider died after being struck by a six-wheel truck today - latest victim of a rising Phuket road toll that claimed a Czech expat yesterday.
The truck crunched the woman about 8am as both vehicles travelled along Pracha Uthit 1 Road, which runs parallel to the bypass road through Phuket City. Ambulance officers attended the scene but the woman died while being taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital in Yaowarat Road. About 2.30am the previous morning, Czech Jaroslav Krupka, 44, lost control on a curve, hitting and splitting a tree before crashing into a power pole in Chalermprakiat Road, near Kathu Temple. He and his teenage son were riding two motorcycles to Phuket Villa in Kathu, after a night out in Patong. Mr Krupka's Thai wife has been notified. His body was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital. No helmets were found at the scene. A disproportionate number of expat residents and tourists die or are seriously injured in motorcycle crashes on Phuket. http://phuketwan.com/tourism/truck-kills-woman-phuket-expat-dies-crash-curve-23071/ |
